Beautiful seven year old Hayes Shurden runs at full speed down the house steps into the garage every day at about six o’clock. She takes off when she hears the garage door. She runs because she is excited to see her Daddy and she needs to tell him everything that happened during her day. But it is not just about herself. She also wants to make sure her Daddy had a good day.

She asks “What was the highlight of your day?”

Once you have been made to feel this special you just don’t want it to stop. But it will, I know because my ten year old son stopped coming out of the house and waving goodbye to me about three years ago.

Resistance to change is futile. Stephen R. Covey, author of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People gives a method of dealing with, embracing, and creating good changes. Be proactive by looking at what around you may change. Form a vision of what you want things to look like after the change. Plan to be the winner from anticipated change. Collaborate with others effectively by first understanding what they need, then try to be understood.

At our law office we are engaged in massive change. We just physically moved to a new office after 15 years in one location. We have recently revised our website and communication efforts with our existing and potential clients to include a newsletter, new software for more regular email communications, new videos about our services, and information campaigns about elder law for potential clients. We are also committed to providing skillfull planning with regards to significant changes in long term care planning regulations from the VA and Medicaid. We are in it to win it for ourselves and our clients.

And back at home, once Hayes stops coming downstairs to the garage I will have to get with her new program. I’ll have to find out where she is and greet her in her new place.
